Are Music Artists Crazy? by Jerry W. Henry
Are Music Artists Crazy? by Jerry W. Henry
Maybe! I read an article that said less than 10% of popular music singers have taken vocal lessons. I don’t think they give credit for children’s chorus instructions. The article went on to imply that music artists are an untrained lot. The writer compared music artists with doctors that have never been to medical school. In my opinion the article writer had no concept of art.
I can think of many other situations where I might think music artists might be on the verge of insanity. Those artists that constantly compare themselves to other music artists are at the top of my list. Next would be those artists that set unachievable goals and expect them to be accomplished within an unrealistic time. Close behind are those that base their entire career on a single project. Then come music artists that expect their family to encourage them. I do think many only do works that their family would love. Last but not least are those music artists that let money dictate what they do.
I don’t want to hurt your feelings but you are going to get your feelings hurt. You need to know that if you stick with what you know and what you do best, time will pass you by. You must keep evolving. Bowing to social pressures will also drive you crazy. We won’t talk about undervaluing your talent. All of this is the nature of the business.
